Three ways people start here.

First-time lifter

New to strength training and looking for a place with clear equipment and available guidance.

Independent member

You have your own program. You need a focused space with the right equipment to run it.

Experienced strength athlete

Competing or training at a high level. You need racks, bars, and platforms that match.

Built for strength training

Our members train in different disciplines, follow different programs, and have different reasons for being here. The floor has room for all of it.

  1. Powerlifting

Squat, bench and deadlift training on rack and platform space, with the bars and plates a competitive total needs.

  2. Olympic weightlifting

Snatch and clean and jerk work on lifting platforms with bumper plates, so the lifts can be dropped where they are meant to be dropped.

  3. Strongman

One of the three disciplines this gym was built around. Implement training happens here alongside the barbell work.

  4. General strength training

Build strength for whatever life asks of you.

Not sure which of these you are? Book a Free Facility Tour and walk the floor before you decide.

Ask About Personal Training

Who we are

Santa Cruz Strength is an independent strength gym built around the people who train here. There’s room for powerlifting, Olympic weightlifting, strongman, general strength work, and whatever program you bring with you.

Different goals, schedules, bodies, and experience levels share one room. Members give each other space to focus, offer a spot when asked, and help each other find their footing without turning training into a performance.

Ask for help

Need a spot, a second set of eyes, or help finding something? Ask. We look out for one another here.

Train Your Way

Bring your program, put your headphones on, and focus, work with a coach, or train with your friends. You can be part of the community without being pushed to socialize.

Share the floor

Beginners and experienced lifters use the same space. Different goals can coexist when people communicate, respect the room, and give each other space to train.

There is no single type of person who belongs at Santa Cruz Strength. We welcome people of different identities, bodies, backgrounds, abilities, and experience levels, and we expect everyone who trains here to treat each other with respect. We are proudly queer-friendly and committed to making this a space where people can train as themselves.

Hear It From The Members

Hands down best gym in Santa Cruz if you're serious about powerlifting or bodybuilding. The gym gives old school vibes and is definitely barebones which is pretty sick. Open 24/7 — everything you need to get stronger.
Jeremy BallMember, Powerlifter
